Transportation of marketing functions
To a very great degree our marketing system is built upon and presupposes an economical and effective transportation system.

It is th function of transportation to convey commodities from places where their utility is relatively low to places where utility is higher. Concentration of natural resources at certain centres makes it necessary for the industries to concentrate there. This geographical division of labour and its advantages are make possible with the help of transportation.

The principal economic basis of transportation is enhancing the value of goods by the creation of place utility. Even in case of the simplest marketing mechanism, where the consumer buys directly form a local firm or factory, transportation is involved and must be performed either by buyers or seller.

The development of various kinds of transportation has been responsible for the opening of new markets.  Together with the development in communication, it has been a major factor in determining the extent of marketing area.  It assists in the sale of good in domestic as well as foreign markets.  Today the transport is capable of creating time utilities also with the increase in the speed of various modes of transportation.
